I would love to have Disqus on my site.

What you think other Nucleus users should know!

I would love to have Disqus on my site. Anyone have any idea how to make this possible?

Yes, it's very easy. I just did it in less than 5 minutes, and I had never used it before. Sign up you website, get the universal code. Past the first block of code in place of the Nucleus comments in your item template and put the second block just before /body tag. Just like the instructions on the Disqus site say. Then you might want to style according to whatever theme you are using. And if you switch theme you need to add Disqus to your new theme.

Here's my test site: edit, removed Disqus from my testing site.

I did not remove the nucleus comments here, just for testing. But in a live site I think it would be too confusing to have both.

Yay an answer so quickly, thanks :)

Past the first block of code in place of the Nucleus comments

This was the part I was confused about, where exactly do I replace it? In skins "main index"?

Oh wait I think I got it, now all I need is a permalink added to the post itself :) Thanks!

No, I would add it to the item skin, add the permalink to the index skin. Otherwise people will comment only on the intro text. And I don't think Disqus would be able to tie your comments to a specific post.

Of course, that might depend on how you are using Nucleus.

I'll post up some more tips for this later when I've played with it some more.

Yes it does! On the template you use for your index page add this (replace Nucleus own comment link):

Code: Select all

  <a href="<%itemlink%>#disqus_thread">link</a>

On your main page, below the post you will see: x Comments and x Reactions, clicking on it takes you to the item page :)

Right, I meant the main part of the disqus in the index. That link goes to the item page, so that works.

It also works in a shadowbox, but it looks like my server went down!

Would love to have a login feature like this within Nucleus itself so I wouldn't have to rely on a 2nd party but for now I'm happy :)

You mean allowing users to login to a nucleus account (have local privileges in nucleus) using an external account (facebook, yahoo, etc...)?

There is a new (3.5x) plugin api event that should permit such a thing (it's been done using LDAP/Active Directory accounts in the NP_LdapAuth plugin), but I don't think anyone has tried it with OAuth or other external account mechanism.

There are some tricks because to have any privileges in nucleus (admin, blog team, member) you need a local nucleus account so the plugin would need to create/update that account and enforce that no duplicate emails are used. But someone with the desire and ambition could write it, I think the hooks are there and NP_LdapAuth could be used as a guide.

Yes that's what I mean. Right now with Disqus if it goes down so will my comments.

Will just have to wait and see if someone feels up to do that as to me it's all hocus pocus ;)

There is an option to export all your comments to an XML file.

It does not look good if you have two comment box. After changing my nucleus comment link into the tags you gave, I think Disqus is better but do not leave it auto approval. Thanks for the advice.
