No Links in my RSS Feed

Postby dunkelangst » Thu Aug 08, 2013 10:26 am

Hello you all!!

My RSS-Feed is available under this URL:
http://www.dunkelangst.org/microblog/xml-rss2.php

But there is a problem: You can't click on the articles, because inside of my Feed are no Links...

What can I do?

I don't know why the xml-rss2.php don't work or why it's set up as it is.

But you could try to do the following change in xml-rss2.php:

From

Code: Select all

$CONF['Self'] = 'xml-rss2.php';
to

Code: Select all

$CONF['Self'] = 'http://www.dunkelangst.org/microblog/index.php';

Please let me extend on this a bit ... I'm using xlm-rss2.php (as well as atom.php) successfully, --- but I'm unhappy with it! Here's why:
My homepage contains "body"-texts ot 8+ pages (i.e. the first short part that ends in a "read more"-link), where the extended part may end up being 6 to 8 html-pages (in print) each. Now both, rrs2 as well as atom display the entire homepage with the complete articles each ... which results in a hell of lot of text ... (and of course with all old articles as well).
What I'd prefer would be: Let rss (and atom) only output the most recent addition (with title and date), and from this, display the body-text only up to "read more" including the link to the item-page.
How could this be accomplished? Would be a real hit!
Kindly, Helmut

Hi Helmut,

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly, I think there used to be an old plugin called NP_XMLTools which allowed the user to set the number of words desired in the feed excerpt. It's very old so I don't know if it still works now but you could give it a try and see!

The wiki page is here: http://nucleuscms.org/wiki/doku.php/xmltool

It looks like the plugin is not available there anymore so I'm attaching a copy here if you want to try it.

You can also find a newer version modified by other users in this thread here http://nucleuscms.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4133&hilit=xmltools (you'll need to copy the source code to a text file and name it accordingly in order to use it). The newer version has some different functions from the old one.

Hopefully at least one of them will work for you!

Oh, also, a non-plugin method can be found here in the FAQ:

You might prefer this method, it looks simpler :)

Wow! Wonderful, great! Thank you dis!
The "non plup-in" method works right away, but I will still experiment with XMLTools, as this one looks quite intriguing! ;) At any rate - your input helped me a huge step forward! Thank you very much!
