Fast_Lane: Seems same as Fastlane, but with errors. I need to check the skin repository to see which one is linked.

I decided I would update the skins, to make sure they are all functional, valid xhtml (or whatever doctype is specified) , and add display:block to the css to fix the comment form.

Anyway, my question has to do with Nucleus 4, which Frank mentioned in a post to someone else. Will Nucleus 4 use the same skins? And will it be released soon, say, within a year? I don't want to spend a lot of time fixing skins which will be deprecated soon anyway, but if 4 uses basically the same skins I would rather wait and update them then.

WillyP, Nucleus 4 will be released before the end of the year, I suspect. It will use the same skins. We have decided to add <p></p> tags around the fields in the comment form to fix the block issue for most users. It shouldn't mess up skins with display:block, I don't think, and will look better for skins without it. It can also be customized with css.

It would be good to clear out any skins that don't work or fix minor bugs in others. It's a laborious task, but with benefit. It's great if you are willing to take on such a big task.

The skin, Altruism, works fine on the skinsite. However,it won't work on my site, I have tried it on three different installs. Here is one: Test - Just testing and learning Nucleus CMS
As you can see there is no content or categories, etc...

The index template is empty, on my test site. However, I cannot get the index template to import. The skinbackup has the template, I even tried exporting the templates from the skinsite, then overwriting the template on my test site, and even deleting the template and importing again, but no go.

Edit: Found the problem! Weird character in the skinbackup.

Code: Select all

çà

This was in the archive template and apparently broke the whole template.

Probably a bad character in the skinbackup.xml file that is choking the xml parser.

EDIT: Just loaded the skinbackup.xml file into firefox and got this error:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: file:///C:/Inetpub/ftproot/Fedora/Core4/nucleuscms/skins/altruism_skin/altruism/skinbackup.xml
Line Number 126, Column 46:<a href="<%archivelink%>" title="Archive for ￿ %b, %Y">%b, %Y</a>
---------------------------------------------^

There may be more. Suvoroff does a lot of good work on skins, but he does them originally in russian and sometimes misses an odd character or two. We've seen this same thing on a couple other skins. Doesn't bother some people. I think it depends on character encoding set in browser or on site.

Thanks for the reply, I must have edited my post while you were posting. I suspected that weird character as soon as I saw it.
