I'm having big troubles with the captcha support unfortunately :?

No matter what I type into the captcha answer box, it always turns out wrong :cry:
I was beginning to think nobody was looking at my new guestbook, when I suddenly
got a email from my mom wondering why her greetings never showed up.
And she got some strange error telling her she wasn't human (captcha error page).

I haven't found any way to fix this yet myself *sniff*

Another thing you might want to have a look at, is that there seem to be a flaw in the
conversion code for the smilies.
In FireFox everything looks ok when the option is turned OFF, but viewing the same in
IE there are placeholders for images with the alt="" attribute set to the appropriate smily.
I don't think its supposed to do that? :wink:

Hard to guess where was problem, but I'v tested it a bit more and found mistake in documentation. It was saying:
add form field for a captcha solution <input type=”text” name=”captcha” /> (You can copy and paste it from here). The name of this field must be captcha exactly.

But wiki converted quotes ( " ) to &rdquo; entities. So when you have followed the instructions and copied text by copy-paste method it didn't work. Sorry about this, it was my mistake (documentation corrected now). Maybe this was the problem?

the navigation bar also makes strange thinks (it doesn't understand css).

Ca you please describe "strange things" and/or "doesn't understand css" better? Link to yor website (if it's online) can be helpfull too.

Going to next or previous page I only see a simple plain text page (no template).

Many thanks, I've just downloaded your last script update, I'll try it as soon as I can.

Ciao.

Can you provide link to your website please? I still don't know enough to guess where the problem can be. :?

hey pepiino,

I don't know this is done, but I start getting spam from those casino bots on the miniforum... time to add spamcheck?? (or maybe it fall through??)

I am using NP_Blacklist, which is kind of outdated now, but works for me.

All need to do is to add these lines in doAction() just before SQL INSERT

Code: Select all

        // Spam Check with NP_Blacklist
        $spamcheck = array ('type'  => 'MailtoaFriend',
                                    'data'  => $uname . " " . $url . " " . $body);
        global $manager;
        $manager->notify('SpamCheck', array ('spamcheck' => & $spamcheck));

I know radaz also has the new plugin for spam fighting.... maybe we can hook to that too....

Hi Admun
Spamcheck event is in SVN version of NP_MiniForum (http://nucleus-plugins.org/dev/browser/miniforum/trunk) but I'm working on more improvements, so I don't know when I will release it for public use. I'm in the middle of admin area refactoring and reworking now, so the SVN version of plugin is very unstable 8) .

admun wrote:I know radaz also has the new plugin for spam fighting.... maybe we can hook to that too....

Which one do you mean? If I understand it correctly rakaz's plugins (NP_Akismet, NP_MultiRBL ...) are using spamcheck event too, but are only working with version 3.3 from Nucleus CVS. Have I missed something?

Thanks for the upgrade. Characters and page transitions are ok!
Troubles with MSIE should relate to cache management.

Hi
I'm sorry for a long response time. I wasn't able to reproduce MSIE trouble you had (tryed on a few machines with msie but works for me everywhere). But I done a little change which should force browser to do not cache. Please, try to download updated NP_MiniForum.php file and come back to say if the problem still remains.

I mean NP_Akismet. I thought it works for 3.22 as well?

BTW, I start getting a lot of spam attack recently.... I think the bot writer able to write code to inject code to the forum... damn. wondering we have other tricks.... I think I will try NP_Akismet later, since NP_Blacklist is getting behind on spammers and spam get through everyday... :cry:

hey,

Another suggestion. :wink:

Maybe we can log the IP address of each entry to a forum. I've been having spammers coming through via miniforum and I am manually admin NP_Blacklist to block IP or keyword. I ended up have to go to the Apache access log to search for IP address to block as some spam have no keyword that I can block.....

Thanks for the good work there.

BTW, Have you see a new plugin called NP_SpamGuardian? I am wondering if we can put in some infrastucture to use this plugin to authenicate commenters.... it works kind of like NP_Captha.

cheers,
admun
