This is actually an extremely usefull plugin, not just for those of us who are to lazy to split our own posts, but to make public/community blogs a little more idiot proof.

I saw the code had these TODOs:
- add pagebreak tag <pagebreak>
- add split by paragraph mode

Especially the second one would be nice, although I don't care enough about it to not use this plugin without it... ;-)

Will there be a new version of this plugin with "split by paragraph mode" any time soon? Or ever?

Again, it's extremely usefull for making community sites more idiot proof, almost indispensible.

v0.99 is out, which is a beta before v1.0.

new features/bug fix:
- only split if extended text is empty
- add split by paragraph mode
- per blog autoextended enable/disable option
- option for split mode with override from option tab when writing post
- add pagebreak mode. split by insert <pagebreak> into post

code @ http://edmondhui.homeip.net/nudn/item/n ... ended-v099

NP_AutoExtended - Edit

Postby CoolmanNinja » Tue Apr 15, 2008 2:29 pm

Can anyone help to hack NP_AutoExtended to make it subscribed to "PreUpdateItem" and "PrepareItemForEdit" ?

Right now, AutoExtended supports only AddForm and not EditForm. Therefore once my blog gets edited, the "cut' feature does not kick-in anymore.

Hope to get someone's help here. I cant speak IT lingo.

CoolManNinja,

I've emailed you (at gmail) a version of this plugin that should work for editing. I've only done preliminary testing. Please check it out and let me know how it works. I've also sent it to admun for his review.

Wasn't too hard.

Hello ftruscot,

Yes. It works perfectly....

Just only one piece of little bug needs attention, as i replied to you in email before.
The modified code is written to add "..." marks automatically when AutoExtended is triggered. As suggested by you, probably should have another code to remove the "..." marks during "editing" stage.

Otherwise, the blog will have lots of "..." in multiple of times whenever the blog gets edited.

Thanks for your effort and hard work in helping me.

Sorry CMN, I've forgotten about this. I've been really busy the past few weeks and have let a few things slip. Remind me in a couple days if I don't get back to you with something.

Hello ftruscot,

You are always super-efficient !

Another little bug worths mentioned, i noticed that the code tends to add more "white space" at the bottom each time the blog is edited.

Thanks for all the helps !!

Hi Edmun. I'm using

<a href="<%itemlink%>">(read all)</a>

instead of <%morelink%>; 'cause when I used the latter, it happened that in the "full item" page I readed just the sequel of the article (that is, the part which was split out): with itemlink I can read the whole article, albeit it features a layout such as "last words of the preview (3 dots) (other 3 dots) rest of the article which was splitten out".

Could you provide a solution for this problem please? Ty.

Again????? Another?????
So here we come again to what I said elsewhere in sum; the plugins (either third-party or by insiders) must be adopted officially as part of the bundle only after the ensemble of insider coders has revisioned, accepted and included 'em steadly in the core.
Now here we have yet another not working plugin and no native plugin in order to replicate its workabout! And nobody of whom remain, feel the duty to take care of eventual issues of adaptability with newer nucleus' versions! This is unbelievable.
Now this was a very interesting plugin to achieve effects which nucleus base wasn't able to. And now, how could I get the same effect, without this plugin?
I don't want to say it, but really many many people seem to be careless if nucleus could die by abandonement this way.

The problem is that Nucleus is on the brink of death by abandonment. No one of the nucleus core developers are active on this forum, and I think I'm the only one of the plugin developers who still are active on this forum.

But Nucleus is not completely dead yet. I'm considering making a fork of the current version of the Nucleus core to fix the known bugs. I'm also in the process of setting up a plugin repository website for my plugins and maybe some other up to date plugins. Unfortunately this takes some time as I have other hobbies that I also want to spend time on.
